Trump national security administration utilized Gmail for government issues

(MENAFN) Members of the US National Security Council (NSC), including National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, have reportedly used personal Gmail accounts to discuss sensitive government matters, according to a report by the Washington Post. The report cites emails and sources familiar with the situation, revealing that Waltz and his aides communicated on unsecured platforms about military operations and sensitive defense information.

One notable incident involved Waltz accidentally adding a journalist to a Signal chat where senior officials discussed US military strikes in Yemen. Additionally, Waltz's aide used Gmail for technical discussions involving military strategies and weapons systems related to ongoing conflicts.

While officials typically must use secure, government-issued communication channels, NSC spokesperson Brian Hughes defended Waltz, stating that classified information was not sent via Gmail and that secure platforms were used for classified matters. The controversy comes as Democrats criticize the use of Signal for discussing military operations, though officials deny sharing classified content in the chat. President Trump has rejected calls to fire Waltz, attributing the situation to "fake news" and "witch hunts."
