Iranian minister says Russian news agency successful at countering ‘Western news monopoly’
“I am a fan of this network. I usually follow its news, its analysis, and programs,” Araghchi said during the conversation. He explained that the world is heavily influenced by Western, particularly American, media, which tends to present global news from a biased perspective. He added that these media outlets, due to their vast reach, aim to shape public opinion worldwide.
Araghchi lauded RT for its efforts to create a new space in global media, stating that it had been successful in countering the Western news monopoly. He expressed hope that RT would continue on this path and wished the network success in the future.
In September, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on several Russian media outlets, including RT, accusing them of trying to “undermine democracy” and interfere in US elections. Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that RT operated as a de facto tool of Russian intelligence. Moscow condemned these actions, arguing that the US was waging a war on free speech. Despite ongoing talks aimed at improving US-Russia relations, the sanctions on RT remain in place.
