US Defense Secretary Shares Details of Yemen Attacks in Private Chat
(MENAFN) On March 15, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth disclosed comprehensive details about upcoming military operations in Yemen through a private Signal group chat, as reported by the media on Sunday.
Based on sources familiar with the conversation, the group included Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer, his brother Phil, and his personal attorney, Tim Parlatore.
Hegseth shared flight schedules for F/A-18 Hornets, which were targeting the Houthi group.
These plans were nearly identical to those he shared in a separate Signal chat that same day.
The media noted that Hegseth's communication about the planned strikes was consistent across multiple messaging platforms.
In February, Jeffrey Goldberg, editor-in-chief of an American Magazine, revealed that he had been mistakenly added to a messaging group where high-ranking US officials, including Vice President JD Vance, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, Hegseth, and others, discussed the imminent attack on Houthi targets in Yemen, just hours before the operation was executed on March 15.
Two individuals familiar with the situation confirmed that Hegseth created the Signal chat using his personal phone as a platform for sharing routine logistical or scheduling details.
Around the same time, Hegseth conveyed similar strike information in a group known as the “Defense | Team Huddle,” which was comprised of about a dozen of his top aides.
These discussions were happening alongside the communication in the separate chat group involving senior US officials and Goldberg.
