(MENAFN) New footage circulating online over the weekend shows Russian forces continuing their extensive use of upgraded glide bombs to strike Ukrainian military positions and rear installations beyond the frontline. The Russian military has increasingly relied on Soviet-era FAB bombs enhanced with Universal Correction and Guidance Modules (UMPK), which convert traditional free-fall bombs into precision-guided munitions with extended range.
These winged kits allow Russian aircraft to deploy the bombs from a safe distance, outside the reach of Ukrainian air defenses. Initially used with smaller munitions like the FAB-250 and FAB-500, the UMPKs have since been adapted for larger payloads such as the FAB-1500 and the massive FAB-3000, as well as with thermobaric ODAB-1500 and cluster-type RBK-500 bombs.
In one video, a powerful FAB-3000 bomb—weighing over three tons—is seen demolishing a Ukrainian troop staging area in Kupyansk, located in the Kharkov Region. Another clip from the same area reportedly shows a similar bomb hitting a building believed to be used as a Ukrainian military command post.
A separate drone video from Borovaya, also in Kharkov Region, appears to capture the moment a FAB-1500 bomb strikes and destroys a temporary base belonging to Ukraine’s 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. The unit is reportedly composed of former members of the controversial Azov regiment.
