Pakistan Expels Indian High Commission Official Amid Diplomatic Tensions

(MENAFN) In a fresh escalation of diplomatic tensions between the two South Asian neighbors, Pakistan on Thursday expelled a staff member of the Indian High Commission based in Islamabad. The individual was declared persona non grata, a formal designation used in diplomatic parlance to signify an unwelcome person, and was ordered to depart the country within 24 hours.

According to official sources, the Indian Charge d'Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, where Pakistan formally communicated its decision. The ministry emphasized that the expulsion was in accordance with diplomatic norms and was conveyed through proper channels.

This development follows closely on the heels of India’s own move earlier in the day to expel a Pakistani diplomat. It marks the second time in just over a week that New Delhi has taken such action, pointing to a deteriorating trend in bilateral diplomatic relations.

While the exact reasons for the tit-for-tat expulsions were not publicly detailed, such moves are often indicative of deepening distrust and friction between the two nuclear-armed rivals. Both countries have a long history of complex and frequently tense diplomatic engagements, often influenced by broader geopolitical issues and security concerns.

These reciprocal actions are expected to further strain already fragile ties, with analysts warning that continued diplomatic fallout could hinder dialogue on key bilateral matters.
