Judge Says Trump Administration Violated Court Order

(MENAFN) A federal judge declared on Wednesday that the Trump administration breached a prior court ruling by deporting eight migrants from Texas to South Sudan, a "third-party" country not linked to their homeland.

US District Judge Brian E. Murphy, based in Massachusetts, stated that the federal government had failed to follow his March injunction.

This order prohibited the deportation of migrants to a country other than their own due to the risk of facing persecution or torture in such "third-party" nations, as reported by the media.

Judge Murphy remarked, "The department’s actions in this question are unquestionably violative of this court’s order."

This decision followed the confirmation from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during a press briefing that eight migrants—originating from Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cuba, Mexico, and South Sudan—were deported this week.

Although officials asserted that all the deported individuals had criminal convictions involving violent offenses, the men’s attorneys argued that they were denied the right to a court hearing before being deported.

Government lawyers clarified that the migrants remain under the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), but they chose not to disclose the final destination of the flight.

One attorney representing a deportee shared that an officer from the ICE detention center informed her that her client, along with others from the Texas facility, had been sent to South Sudan.

The country is known for its human rights violations and harsh living conditions, including "crime, kidnapping and armed conflict," as highlighted in a previously issued travel advisory from the State Department.
