Cambodia formally elects Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet sent a formal nomination letter to the Norwegian Nobel Committee on August 7, expressing both his own appreciation and the gratitude of the Cambodian people. In the letter, Hun Manet praised Trump’s “extraordinary statesmanship” and his dedication to resolving conflicts, highlighting his success in easing tensions in some of the world’s most unstable regions.
Relations between Cambodia and Thailand worsened in recent weeks, escalating into five days of cross-border airstrikes and rocket attacks that caused numerous casualties before a ceasefire was reached on July 28. Trump had intervened by calling both countries’ leaders, urging them to stop the violence and warning that the conflict could threaten their trade deals with the US. He later congratulated them on the ceasefire.
In addition to Cambodia, Pakistan announced in June it would nominate Trump for his role in achieving a ceasefire following missile exchanges with India, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also declared his intention to nominate Trump in July.
