Yemeni government forces repel Houthi large-scale offensive by Houthi group

(MENAFN) Yemeni government troops fended off a major assault by the Houthi group in Dhalea province on Saturday, leaving three Houthi fighters dead, according to a military source.

The source, who requested anonymity, said the Houthis used heavy artillery in an attempt to breach defensive lines in the Bab Ghalaq area of northern Dhalea, sparking fierce clashes.

The battle lasted for about an hour before the Houthis retreated in disorder to their previous positions, while government forces held their ground. In addition to the three fatalities, the Houthis reportedly lost military equipment. Five government soldiers were wounded in the confrontation.

The Houthi group has not yet issued a statement on the incident. Yemen remains in a fragile calm following the breakdown of a UN-mediated ceasefire in late 2022, with no agreement reached to renew or expand the truce.
