Thousands protest in Turkey condemning Israel's actions against Israel
(MENAFN) Thousands gathered in Istanbul on Saturday to protest Israeli attacks and the blockade on Gaza, according to reports.
The “Be Hope for Gaza” march, organized by 15 civil society groups under the “Support for Palestine Platform,” began at Beyazit Square after evening prayers and proceeded toward the Hagia Sophia Mosque. Demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, displayed banners accusing Israel of starving Gaza, demanded accountability, and chanted slogans such as “Murderer Israel, get out of Palestine.”
Meanwhile, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, condemning Israel’s plan to place Gaza under full military control as “absolutely unacceptable.”
A statement from the Turkish presidency said Erdogan reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to pursuing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire, expressed continued support for Palestine, welcomed increasing calls from European nations for Palestinian statehood, and noted rising criticism of Israel in the West.
Gaza health officials reported that since Israel resumed heavy strikes on March 18, at least 9,862 Palestinians have been killed and 40,809 injured, raising the death toll since October 2023 to 61,369, with 152,850 wounded.
