US Fed Governor to sue Trump to prevent being sacked

(MENAFN) U.S. Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook plans to file a lawsuit to block President Donald Trump from dismissing her, her attorney said Tuesday, contending that the president lacks the authority to remove her from office.

“His attempt to fire her, based solely on a referral letter, lacks any factual or legal basis,” lawyer Abbe Lowell said in a statement. “We will be filing a lawsuit challenging this illegal action.”

Trump announced Cook’s termination in a letter posted on Truth Social Monday night, claiming the firing was “effective immediately” due to alleged “deceitful and potential criminal conduct in a financial matter.”

The president cited a criminal referral letter from Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte, who accused Cook of mortgage fraud. According to the Associated Press, Pulte alleged that Cook had claimed two primary residences in Michigan and Georgia in 2021 to secure more favorable mortgage terms.
