Chinese, Iranian leaders meet for first time since Israel attacks

(MENAFN) Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Beijing, as stated by reports. This encounter marked the first meeting between the two leaders since Israel and the United States conducted airstrikes on Iran in June.

Pezeshkian traveled to China to attend a military parade in Tiananmen Square, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II on September 3.

On June 13, Israel carried out a surprise attack on Tehran, targeting military installations, nuclear facilities, civilian sites, as well as senior commanders and nuclear scientists. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes, while the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear sites. The conflict, which lasted 12 days, concluded under a US-brokered ceasefire on June 24.
