Sudan Announces 4-Month Extension of Adre Border Crossing Access
(MENAFN) The Sudanese government declared on Tuesday that the Adre border crossing with Chad will stay open for an additional four months to facilitate the delivery of vital humanitarian assistance amid ongoing conflict.
In an official statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said, "The Government of Sudan has decided to extend the opening of the Adre border crossing on the Sudan-Chad border for humanitarian aid convoys operated by international relief organizations, starting September 1 until December 31."
Authorities urged international donors and relief agencies to increase support during this extended period to address the pressing needs of civilians impacted by the crisis.
The Adre crossing serves as a crucial land route in western Sudan, connecting the country to Chad and providing an alternative channel to reach thousands affected by the violent conflict.
United Nations agencies highlight that maintaining this corridor is essential for humanitarian partners to deliver critical aid to vulnerable populations.
Sudan has been engulfed in violent clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces since April 2023. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced millions to flee their homes, exacerbating an already severe humanitarian emergency.
