Vietnam holds one of its largest military parades in decades
(MENAFN) Vietnam celebrated its 80th Independence Day from French colonial rule on Tuesday with one of the most extensive military parades in recent decades, alongside the release of nearly 14,000 inmates.
The event drew roughly 40,000 spectators and showcased a wide range of participants, including civilian groups, police, and military units. Tanks, armored vehicles, missile systems, and color guard units were prominently featured. Additionally, four military contingents from Russia, China, Laos, and Cambodia participated in the parade.
In his address, Vietnamese leader To Lam called efforts to make Vietnam a powerful, happy and prosperous nation by 2045, the 100th founding anniversary of the country.
For the first time, a separate naval parade was held, displaying Russian Kilo-class 636 submarines, guided missile frigates, anti-submarine vessels, fast-attack missile boats, and a variety of ships operated by the coast guard, fisheries surveillance, military medical corps, border guard, maritime militia, and helicopter forces.
As part of the National Day celebrations, President Luong Cuong signed two special amnesties on August 29 and 31, granting early release to nearly 14,000 prisoners. Among those released were 66 foreign inmates from 18 different countries and territories, who were allowed to return home to join in the holiday observances.
