Italian Alps landslide cause death of five skiers

(MENAFN) At least five people have died after an avalanche struck the Ortles area in Italy’s northern region of Alto Adige, authorities reported on Sunday. The Ortles Alps are among the highest and most remote parts of the Italian mountain range.

The avalanche occurred on Saturday afternoon while a group of German skiers was navigating the slopes, initially resulting in three fatalities. Rescue teams resumed search operations on Sunday morning and discovered two more bodies, bringing the death toll to five.

Local authorities have cautioned about continuing avalanche risks in the region, urging mountain visitors to exercise extreme care amid unstable snow conditions.
