Missile Strike on Bryansk Causes Seven Fatalities

(MENAFN) The Russian city of Bryansk has reported seven fatalities and 42 injuries following a missile attack attributed to Ukraine, local Governor Alexander Bogomaz said. The strike occurred on Tuesday around 6 pm (1500 GMT), a time when many residents were returning home from work.

Bogomaz described the attack as targeting civilians during peak hours, adding that “there were many residents of the city of Bryansk on the streets. They struck at that time.”

In a separate statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that British-made weaponry was reportedly used in the strike. The ministry framed the attack as a provocation intended to undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts between Russia, the US, and Ukraine. It accused London and other Western nations of attempting to disrupt peace talks by causing civilian casualties.

“The tactic is not new and is used by the sponsors of the Kyiv regime every time a real prospect for a settlement appears,” the ministry said. It also highlighted the timing of the attack, coinciding with statements from Washington expressing optimism about progress in Ukrainian peace negotiations.

Russian officials called on international organizations, particularly the UN, to assess the strike, warning that inaction could be interpreted as condoning actions by Ukrainian authorities.
