Rubio Travels to Sweden, India for NATO, Security Meetings

(MENAFN) Marco Rubio is set to travel to Sweden and India later this week for a series of diplomatic meetings centered on NATO coordination, Arctic security, energy cooperation, and defense relations, according to the US State Department.

During his visit to Sweden, Rubio will participate in a NATO Foreign Ministers Meeting in Helsingborg on May 22. Discussions are expected to focus on increasing defense spending among alliance members and improving burden-sharing within NATO.

He is also scheduled to meet representatives of the Arctic Seven nations to address regional economic and security concerns linked to the Arctic, alongside separate talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Following the Sweden leg of the trip, Rubio will visit India from May 23 to 26, with stops planned in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur, and New Delhi.

In India, he is expected to hold discussions with senior officials covering energy security, trade relations, and defense cooperation as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between Washington and New Delhi.
